Roger is usually up by 5 even though it's not daylight yet. I sleep in till at least 6:30 or 7. He eats breakfast without me. He can't wait for me to get up. That's fine with me. Cooking is not one of my favorite things. I get up. I read my morning devotions, have a cup of coffee then clean the kitchen.
When a team is here we are busy from sunup until sunset. But no teams for now. Since I now have a washing machine, laundry at least every other day. I usually spend about an hour on my creole lessons. I am presently learning on my own with an apple app called Byki. Mwen ap aprann pale Kreoyl. I am learning to speak creole. It is a broken creole but I am understood with what I do know how to say. Don't ask about Roger's creole. We will not go there.
After creole studies I try to spend about an hour in Bible study. However, school has started here on the compound so, I am the unofficial school nurse. I see about one to two children a day for scrapped knees or elbows, fevers , skin rashes so interruptions are common. I don't mind though. After all I am here to serve those the Lord puts in my path each day. I do tell each one I minister to that Jezi renmen ou! Jesus loves you!
I sweep the entire apartment at least twice a week (Roger will mop for me), and the bathroom, hall, kitchen and porch everyday. And wipe down the kitchen counters daily. Dust is continuously rebuilding. Not even 10 minutes after wiping down counters and sweeping floors there is another fine layer of dust.
I have not been as diligent about cleaning the small pharmacy we have behind the apartment. I need to actually do that this week, probably Saturday when school is out. Don't know why I have such a difficult time working down there. I need to sort through our meds and supplies and check expiration dates again.
At least one or twice a week I do our accounting , making sure I have all receipts filed and logged into the computer. When teams are here that is a daily task.
And I look after Roger. That in its self is a full time job. The man has no concept of time. All he knows is if it is daylight or dark. And if it is daylight he is going to be working on something. So while I don't cook breakfast I do have to cook dinner and I have never been good at planning that so I am always trying at the last minute to decide what to cook. Difficult when the person you cook for doesn't really like leftovers unless its meat. And he can't eat anything spicy and he doesn't want the same thing all the time. Other than that he is not too difficult to please. Lunch is usually just a sandwich.
I am also having to make sure he stays hydrated. I have to remind him to drink liquids. He sweats a lot! And is constantly thirsty. I have told him he can't wait til he is thirsty to drink something. And as to constant interruptions? Roger is part of that! Bless his heart I don't know what he would do without me! He is always wanting me to help him with something. Hold this or pump the brakes on the car when he is working on them or stand on the roof and hand him stuff when he is on the ladder. It's good to be needed!
After lunch things get pretty quite again. Roger will take a nap. Sometimes I will too. But I will draw or paint since I got some supplies a couple of weeks ago in the Dominican Republic. Or I will read. I have also started an exercise program for myself. I brought my Leslie Sansome Walk Away the Pounds DVD. I have started back on that and have made it up to the two mile walk. I want to make it to the 4 mile again. I felt so good when I was doing that program on a regular schedule.
After that I cook dinner. After dinner and kitchen cleanup, we get our showers. I signed us up for Netflix which Roger has enjoyed since we do not have a TV. And Roger will pop us some popcorn! Not the microwave kind but old fashioned popcorn. It is so good! I don't know if I can eat the microwave kind again! After about an hour or two of Netflix, Roger is ready to sleep and I am still awake. So games, reading, YouTube, Facebook til I get sleepy. My night usually ends around 11 pm.
Sound pretty boring doesn't it. But we are busy, we are making relationships with our nationals here. We interact with the school children and the adults. The Lord told us one person, one family at a time. And right now that is what is happening. I would like to tell you about the family that has our heart right now. But I think I'll safe that for next time. Pase bon nwi. Good night.
