Autumn

Autumn is my favorite time of the year. I love the cool air and the pop of color when the leaves start to change. I love sweaters and jeans and hot raspberry tea. I love sitting around a camp fire and listening to the crackle and pop of the wood as it burns and the flicker of blue, orange and yellow of the flames.

I miss it. There is no autumn in Haiti. It is summer year round. Don't get me wrong now. I do not like COLD weather. When it gets below 40 degrees I am ready for some warm weather. But aaaah the autumn.

We went to Kenscoff, Haiti yesterday. IT WASN"T HOT! I never knew such a place existed! I had heard but I did not believe it. A friend of ours Karen Shoda is staying with us for a couple of weeks until her team from Haiti Missions arrives in Fontamara November 2. We took her there to stay with another friend of hers for a few days. I was in awe!

We had been to the Baptist Mission before and yes it was cooler than Bon Repos. But this place was another 25 minutes up the mountain from there. I was wearing a sleeveless top and I needed a light jacket! Of course Roger said it was not cold. It just felt good to him. Karen sent me a message last night that it was 60 degrees there last night! 60 degrees in HAITI!

And the trees and the flowers and the mist of the clouds, it was all so beautiful! I found out that Kenscoff is 5000 ft above sea level. It was almost as good as being in the Smoky Mountains!

I had joked with Pastor Abraham before about planting a church in Kenscoff and letting the missionaries run it. Maybe now I am not joking? All kidding aside, it was a beautiful place and it thrilled my heart to know there are places that we can go to remind us of home (well at least weather wise).
