I am not a writer. When faced with the reality that to complete my nursing degree I had to write papers, I panicked. Yet here I am writing. I have no allusions that I will ever be published. (I did complete my degree.)
The two authors I know are wonderful people. The one I know best is Al Argo. He is a good friend we have known for years. He and his wife Coli live in Asia. He just had his first book published. I am so excited for him! I am in the process of reading it as I write this.
The other writer is Cindy Woodsmall. We attended the same high school. She was a year ahead of me and she writes historical romance novels about the Amish community. I have not read any of her books yet. Mainly, because I don’t read as much fiction as I used to.
I do love to read though. Books have always had an important place in my life from the time I read my first story book in school. I have always been able to get lost in a story. I have travelled the world in books if not in actuality. And I love the smell of books, book stores, and libraries. I could spend all day in a book store.
A few weeks ago I had a discussion about books with my nephew. David is nearly thirteen and really into technology. He does not see the point in books. That is so sad. He is missing out on so much information! I do realize that the two can now be combined. E-readers are real popular, I have one my self. But I still like the feel and smell of a real book. I will most likely always read my Bible in book form and not electronically.
I really like historical books. I love reading about different people, places, cultures and times. I guess that is why I love the Old Testament of the Bible so much, all the history in it, especially His history. It is after all His story! The story of His love for a creation that disobeyed Him became entrenched in sin, and how He always had a plan to redeem and restore us to Himself. It is the best story in the world because it is not fiction. It is the greatest fact in the world!
